Jana Novotny Hunter has written over fifty books for children, including the award winning “Read My Lips” a story of a young deaf girl’s desire to speak. A graduate of Hornsey College of Art, and the University of California in Los Angeles, Jana spent many years in America where she worked as a Textile Designer, Teacher and Writer.

In 1993 she, with the Illustrator/Author Sue Porter, opened Bear Studios, a place to work, discuss ideas and meet others involved in children’s books. A Visiting Lecturer teaching illustrators and writers the relationship between image and text in picture books, Jana enjoys speaking in schools and libraries, conducting workshops and lecturing at conferences. She is the Senior Managing Editor at Berryland Books.
